Occupational Podiatry relates to the assessment, management, functional restoration and return-to-work of individuals who have suffered a compensable work-related injury.

Occupational Podiatry services are also available to organisations who wish to reduce the risk of lower extremity workplace injuries.

Talysha has over 15 years experience in treating work-related injuries, in addition to in-depth experience as a  Workers' Compensation case manager in South Australia. 

Injured Workers

If you have suffered a compensable work-related injury, you can consult with Talysha regarding;

- Treatment for your lower limb injury.

- Assessment of work-related footwear and required therapeutics.

- Review Recovery & Return to Work plans.

- Develop lower limb rehabilitation and functional restoration programs that align with your injury and work requirements, providing a rehabilitation pathway to return to your usual duties.

Organisations

Occupational Podiatry services can be accessed to;

- Provide evidence-based education to return-to-work coordinators, on-site rehabilitation providers and staff, regarding preventing work-related lower limb injuries.

- Provide information regarding common injuries, evidence-based treatments, common functional deficits and rehabilitation goals. 

- Review previous work-related injuries and provide advice on improving management and return-to-work processes.

Second Opinion

Our second opinion service is designed to support General Practitioners or Specialists to answer questions regarding lower extremity injuries, including, injury status, prognosis, rehabilitation and suitable treatment interventions.

For injured workers, we encourage you to talk to your case manager regarding referral to this service.

Please note this is not a Second Opinion Medicine (SOM) service per Return to Work SA referrals.

Second opinion consultations can be useful when you, your current treating practitioner, or injury case manager (Workers' Compensation) are wanting some insights or guidance relating to your clinical care. 

Second opinion appointments provide a comprehensive assessment of your condition, your treatment regimes and provide un-biased advice regarding potential treatment options.

These appointments include a detailed written report and recommendations.
The appointments do not bind you to any treatment interventions or have an expectation that you will continue care with Talysha.

Do you have running or activity-related pain?

Clinical gait analysis may provide useful information to help us understand your injury, and allow us to help you overcome your injury or complaint.

Whilst the way you walk or run may not be the underlying cause of your injury, in the presence of pain or pathology, we may be able to identify ways in which we can modify your movement to aid in symptom management and get you on the road to recovery.

Altering the ways in which you move and load your injured tissues can be modified via a number of interventions, including;
- Movement cues (e.g., gait re-training) and exercise prescription.
- Footwear.
- Orthoses and other orthomechanical interventions.

It is important to note that not everyone requires orthoses, footwear changes or scripted exercises. 
It is very individual and you will not be recommended any treatment intervention that is not clinically indicated, based on your individual assessment.

Footwear is an incredibly useful tool within the injury management matrix. 

We can make the most appropriate footwear recommendations, based on;
- Your individual activities.
- Your injury & injury loading requirements.
- Your specific footwear-fit requirements.

We work with leading footwear retailers in both Adelaide and around Australia, to ensure that your footwear fit is best aligned with your needs.

Whilst not every musculoskeletal injury requires orthoses, there are instances where orthotic therapy can be an integral part of your management.

Foot orthoses don't;
"Correct pronation"
"Align your posture"

They are used to alter where and how much tissues are loaded when you are walking, running, cycling, and/or jumping.

We follow evidence-based practice, and orthotic therapy will only be recommended if we are confident that they will provide clinical benefit to you.
